Mark A. Fischer graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree with honors in Aerospace Engineering. He began his career with Humble Oil Company, now Exxon Company USA, in the Permian Basin of West Texas where he held various positions as production engineer, reservoir engineer, field superintendent and Supervising Production Engineer. From 1977 until 1980, Mr. Fischer served as the Drilling and Production Manager for the West Texas and then Mid-Continent Divisions of TXO Production Corp. From 1980 until 1988, he served as the Division Operations Manager over the Mid-Continent and Panhandle Divisions for Slawson Exploration Company. In 1988, Mark founded Chaparral Energy, Inc. as a privately held, independent oil and gas production and exploration company with headquarters in Oklahoma City, OK. He served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer until he retired on January 5, 2017. At its peak in 2014, the company operated in 13 states with nearly 800 employees, an EBITDA of $450 million and enterprise valuation of $3.5 billion. With the downturn in oil price over the last several years, the company resized, restructured and refocused itself as a pure-play, Mid-Continent producer with operations in three states. Under Mr. Fischer’s guidance, Chaparral Energy was recognized as one of the fastest growing companies and has won eight Oklahoma City Metro 50 Awards and four Texas A&M Aggie 100 Awards. Being the entrepreneur that he is, Mark acquired Dippin’ Dots Ice Cream in 2012. The company averaged double-digit revenue growth under his stewardship and grew to operate in 13 international countries. Its revenue in 2019 was approximately $80 million. Mark was a national finalist for the Ernest and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2012. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Petroleum Institute and served as a director of the API from 1984-1986. He is a recipient of the Aerospace Department Distinguished Alumnus Award, the College of Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award and was named a Distinguished Alumnus in 2022 of Texas A&M University in 2014. He is the benefactor and sponsor of the Texas A&M CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery Research Facility. Mr. Fischer is also the sole owner, acting manager and Chairman of the Board of Pointe Vista Development, LLC and its related entities, Skybridge Development, LLC and its related entities, Skysource, LLC and its related entities, 164th and May, LLC and its related entities, SuMark Pharmacies and Doc Popcorn, LLC. Mark has served on several nonprofit organization boards, including the Boy Scouts of America, and he currently serves on the Texas A&M Look College of Engineering Advisory Council. He was Chair of the Board of the Association of Former Students for Texas A&M University and is a member of the Texas A&M Legacy Society, Eppright Distinguished Donors Program and Diamond Champions Council. He also served as a campaign chairman for Texas A&M University’s $4.0 billion “Lead by Example” comprehensive campaign, to which he was a major donor.
